OCD and Spiritual Armor

When you feel stuck flipping a light switch off and on and off and on and off and on...
When you're standing face-to-face with your stove and oven doubting whether or not you shut it off...
When an intrusive thought causes you doubt and distress...
When you feel stuck scrubbing a spot on the floor over and over and over...
When you're making your 4th trip to the bathroom sink to re-wash your already clean hands...
Whenever you're feeling stuck or tortured in any kind of an "OCD moment"...

Remember...

OCD is not only physical. As I've mentioned in a previous post, there is very much a spiritual struggle within OCD.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. - Ephesians 6:12

Even though it might feel like it, you aren't actually in a head-to-head battle with the stove and oven, nor the bathroom sink. Spiritually speaking, you're staring the enemy himself in the face.

And...

"Without the intervention of God and His holy armor, we are mud on the bottom of the enemy's boots. How wise to humbly seek God's aid by admitting, "rescue me ... for they are too strong for me."" - Beth Moore (Psalm 142:6)

So...

I've learned it's important to seek God and put on spiritual armor daily.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. - Ephesians 6:10-11,13-18

The things I write are things I've learned and/or things I believe. I learned them from sermons, Bible teacher(s), Bible study, life, and/or etc. I take things I've learned and see how I believe they could be applied to OCD based on my experiences, etc. with OCD. I am not saying to use any of the things on this blog as treatment. Maybe you'll find some things in my blog posts to help you on top of whatever treatment method(s) you have chosen/choose to use or not use for your OCD, but you do so at your own risk. I have read something similar or the same as this in the past from a Bible teacher: If anything I ever write doesn't line up with God's Word, please throw it out.

    1. Thanks for your comment. Putting on the armor of God is something I've learned we should do. It's definitely important and I want to do it, but I don't really understand or know how to (not fully, if at all). I've read and/or heard Joyce Meyer teach in regards to the topic a little, so I'm going to look up more about it from her and maybe elsewhere, as well.
